Folnaro with Raycast

The Raycast extension brings Folnaro to your keyboard. You search invoices, quotes, customers, expenses and projects, start and stop the timer, see the running time in the menu bar, create invoice drafts and put receipts into the receipt inbox.

Install the extension

The extension is coming to the Raycast Store. As soon as it is listed there, open the Store in Raycast, search for Folnaro and click Install Extension. The extension finds Folnaro in the Applications folder, in your own Applications folder or through Spotlight. Open Folnaro once before.

The commands have English names in Raycast, as the Store asks for. What they show you comes in English or German. Choose the language under Language in the extension’s settings. By default it follows your Mac’s first language.

What Raycast may do

The extension talks to Folnaro like an agent, through the bundled helper. So it uses the switches under Folnaro > Settings… > Agents in What agents may do, not the Launchers can read switch for Alfred.

The switches apply at once. When one is off, Raycast tells you which one to turn on instead of simply failing. Keep in mind when you allow reading: Raycast shows the results on your Mac. What Raycast itself stores is up to its own settings.

The commands

Search Folnaro	One list for invoices, quotes, customers, expenses and projects, in sections, with status, amount and due date. `⌘D` shows the details.
Start Timer	Your recent projects first, then all active projects and customers. When nothing matches, your text becomes the note of the new entry.
Stop Timer	Stops the running timer and saves the time entry.
Running Timer	Shows the running timer with its time in the menu bar. If you like, it hides itself while no timer runs.
Create Invoice Draft	A form for customer, project, subject, service period and line items. Folnaro works out the totals and VAT.
Capture Receipt	Takes the PDF or image selected in Finder and puts it into the receipt inbox.
Open Section	Jumps to a section of the sidebar, for example Overview, Invoices or Time.

Search and open

Open Search Folnaro and type part of a number, customer, vendor or project. With Show you narrow the search to one area.

Return opens the record in Folnaro.
In the action menu you copy the number, the amount or the Folnaro link. A draft gets its number only when you finalize it.
⌘Y shows an invoice’s PDF in Quick Look.

Start and stop the timer

Open Start Timer and pick a project or a customer. Return starts the timer. With ⌘ShiftReturn you add a note and an activity first. If a timer is already running, Raycast can stop it and start the new one in one step.

You see the running time in Folnaro’s menu bar as usual. The Running Timer command also shows it in Raycast’s own menu bar item.

Invoice draft and receipt

With Create Invoice Draft you create a draft. Folnaro assigns the number only when you finalize the draft in the app. So deleting a draft never leaves a gap.

For Capture Receipt, select a PDF or an image in Finder. Raycast suggests the vendor and the date from the file name and puts the receipt into the receipt inbox. From there you turn it into an expense when you have a moment.

The same rules as in the app

Folnaro checks every change like a click in the window and writes it to the log, with Raycast as the agent. The extension never opens the database itself and never goes online. For each command it starts the helper inside Folnaro and ends it afterwards.

Without an active subscription you can still search, use Quick Look, copy and stop a running timer. New timers, drafts and receipts then need Folnaro Pro. Raycast tells you so instead of starting anything.

Common problems

Raycast can’t find Folnaro: Put Folnaro in the Applications folder and open it once. If Folnaro lives somewhere else, enter the path to folnaro-mcp in Folnaro.app/Contents/MacOS under Helper Path in the extension’s settings.
Raycast names a switch: Open Settings… > Agents and turn on exactly that switch under What agents may do. Folnaro asks for Touch ID or your login password.
Open Section only brings Folnaro to the front: The command presses the shortcuts of the Go menu. For that Raycast needs access under System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility. If you changed the shortcuts in Folnaro, a different section may open.
