Write ZUGFeRD and XRechnung
Which format a customer gets is a setting on the customer. You write the invoice as usual, Folnaro produces the data.

Public bodies and Leitweg-ID
For public bodies you enter the Leitweg-ID on the customer. Without it, the invoice cannot be finalized.

Read e-invoices, not XML
Drop a received XRechnung or ZUGFeRD file into the receipt inbox. Folnaro shows it as a normal invoice and keeps the original file in the archive.
Why it matters
More and more business customers and every public body expect structured invoice data instead of a plain PDF. Solving that with an add-on or a web portal means keeping data twice. In Folnaro the format is a setting on the customer, and you write the invoice as usual.
Good to know
An e-invoice is a structured data set, not a PDF. ZUGFeRD combines both: a readable PDF with embedded data. XRechnung is pure XML and is what public bodies require. Small businesses must be able to receive e-invoices too.
Questions
Is a PDF sent by email an e-invoice?
No. An e-invoice is a structured data set following the EN 16931 standard. A ZUGFeRD PDF in the EN 16931 profile counts because the data is embedded. A plain PDF is not an e-invoice.
Do I have to issue e-invoices as a small business?
No, you do not have to issue them. You still have to be able to receive them since 2025. Folnaro reads received XRechnung and ZUGFeRD files and takes them over as receipts.
What do I need for invoices to public bodies?
The public body’s Leitweg-ID, which is usually in the order. You enter it on the customer and Folnaro checks its check digits. Without it the invoice cannot be finalized. You then upload the XRechnung in the public body’s portal.
Does e-invoicing cost extra?
No. XRechnung and ZUGFeRD are part of Folnaro and there are no add-ons. The one-time purchase and the subscription unlock the same features.
