Getting started
Who is Folnaro for?
For freelancers, self-employed people and small businesses in Germany who write invoices, track time and collect receipts. Whether you use the small business rule (section 19 UStG) or charge VAT, Folnaro adapts to you through a few questions on first launch.
Which Mac do I need?
Folnaro runs on any Mac with macOS 26 or later.
Can I use Folnaro on several Macs?
Your purchases apply to every Mac with your Apple Account. If you turn on sync in Settings > iCloud, your data is the same on every Mac with your iCloud account. Without sync it lives on one Mac, and to move to a new Mac you restore a backup.
I use another tool today. Can I switch?
Yes. Folnaro brings over customers, products and invoices from SumUp Invoices, Lexware Office (formerly lexoffice) and sevDesk, and customers and products from FastBill as CSV. Before saving, Folnaro shows a preview and reconciles the totals; finalized invoices keep their numbers and your number series continue.
Trial and pricing
How does the trial work?
Download Folnaro from the Mac App Store and use every feature for 30 days. There is no account and you enter no payment details. The 30 days count from your first download, even if you reinstall the app later.
What happens after the trial?
Your data stays yours. You can still view, search, print, export and back up everything, and cancel incorrect invoices. Only creating and finalizing new documents, expenses and time entries needs a subscription or the one-time purchase. Receipts are kept for 8 years and books for 10, so access stays.
Can I get Folnaro without a subscription?
Yes. You can buy Folnaro once for €199.99, or subscribe for €7.99 a month or €79.99 a year. Either way you try it free for 30 days first.
Does the one-time purchase include every feature?
Yes. The one-time purchase and the subscription unlock exactly the same features. There are no tiers and no add-ons. You can cancel the subscription any time.
How do I cancel my subscription?
In the subscription settings of your Apple Account, from Folnaro's settings or in the App Store under your account. The subscription runs until the end of the paid period.
Can I share the purchase with my family?
Yes. The subscription and the one-time purchase support Apple Family Sharing.
Do I get an invoice for my books?
Folnaro is sold by Apple. You find the receipt for every purchase in your Apple Account under purchase history.
Tax and law
Does Folnaro create e-invoices?
Yes. Folnaro creates XRechnung and ZUGFeRD and reads incoming e-invoices. That prepares you for the duty to receive them since 2025 and the step by step duty to issue them from 2027.
Does Folnaro follow GoBD?
Folnaro is built on GoBD principles: numbers are assigned without gaps when you finalize, finalized documents cannot change, corrections go through a cancellation invoice and changes are logged. A template for your procedure documentation is included. You remain responsible for proper bookkeeping; Folnaro claims no certification.
Does Folnaro replace my tax advisor?
No. Folnaro prepares your records and creates a package with DATEV export, receipts and reports. The tax assessment stays with you and your tax advisor.
How do my bank statements get into Folnaro?
Download the statement as CAMT, MT940 or CSV, as your bank offers it, and import it. Folnaro then suggests the matching invoice or receipt for every transaction.
Privacy and agents
Where is my data?
In a database on your Mac. Folnaro has no user account, no server for your data and no tracking. We cannot see your data. We only receive feedback you send us from the app yourself. Details are in the privacy policy.
What is MCP?
The Model Context Protocol is an open standard through which agents work with apps. Folnaro ships with a helper that your agent starts locally. With it, the agent can for example look up open invoices or create drafts.
Does Folnaro pass my data to an agent?
Not on its own. Folnaro sends your data to no one, and receipt recognition runs on your Mac. If you connect an agent, it reads the data it needs for your request. Whether it sends that data to its provider depends on the agent you choose.
Can an agent finalize an invoice by accident?
Only if you allow it. You grant write access area by area in the settings, and finalizing is a permission of its own. Every change an agent makes is logged with its name.
